THE WAR IN CHINA
CLAIM BY JAPANESE ADVANCING ON HANKOW SHANGHAI, Oct. 20. (Received Oct. 21, at 11 p.m.) The Japanese claim to be steadily approaching Hankow, having reached Ocheng, which is 70 miles downstream from it. but 40 miles direct. The Chinese insist that they repulsed the invaders along the TehanSingtze railway. They also claim success at Wuchaiten. The Japanese report the capture of Chengkanshu, 20 miles from Canton.
