THE SOCIAL SECURITY BILL
TO THE EDITOR Sir, —The National Party leaves no stone unturned to cause distrust of the Labour Government among the people, and here is one more instance of its style of propaganda. Quarterly notices just sent out by some lodge secretaries convey the impression that members with an intimate knowledge do not bear out the statements made by the Minister of Finance that friendly societies have nothing to fear from the Social Security Bill. I trust that those members who have just returned from the Dominion Friendly Societies’ Council annual meeting in Wellington will, with this knowledge, take all the members into their confidence and point out the advantages, of this scheme and also show that the lodges are not going to be affected as far as membership is concerned. Perhaps the Otago Friendly Societies’ Council will come to the members’ aid and so dispose of any fear that may exist in their minds.—l am, etc., Plain Bill.
