AN INTERESTING TABLE

During the recent Old Glory sale a statement was made to the effect that one-third of the trotters now in the two-minute list had acquired records within the charmed circle as three-year-olds, which caused doubt and surprise, but (says the Harness Horse) the naming of Dean Hanover Imin 58Jsec, Protector Imin 594 sec, The Marchioness Imin 594 sec, Charlotte Hanover Imin 59isec, Hanover’s Bertha Imin 594 sec, Spencer Imin 593 sec, Greyhound Imin 56sec (2min at three years old), Margaret Castleton Imin 594 sec (Imin 593'sec at three years old), and Mr McElwyn Imin 594 sec (Imin 593 sec at three years old), a total of nine, just one-third of the 27, proved the accuracy of the remark. Of the 82 in the ultra-select group, 24 trace to Peter the Great 2min 7isec in the male line and 16 to Axworthy 2min 15isec. The first-named is represented by 10 sons, Peter Volo the leader with eight, Azoff, Daystar, Hollyrood Bob, Peter Potempkin, Peter Scott, Peter the Brewer, Peter Henley, Signal Peter, and The Laurel Hall, and three grandsons —Scotland, Volomite, and Sandy Flash. Axworthy has three sons in the group—Guy Axworthy, Judge Maxey, and Dillon Axworthy—and Guy Axworthy is represented by three sons —Guy Abbey, Mr McElwyn, and Guy Castleton—and three grandsons—Lee Tide, Lee Harvester, and' Lew Axworthy. The three last-named are sons of Lee Axworthy Imin 584 sec, the champion trotting stallion, who died early in his stud career. An examination of the pacers shows that only four reached the two-minute goal as three-year-olds—Billy Direct, Little Pat, Me I Win, and Highland Scott 1.5945ec at that age. The lateral-gaited performers appear to be at their limit as five and six-year-olds, as 26, or almost onehalf of the total, displayed their top form at the ages mentioned. T. W, Murphy still ranks first as regards marking two-minute performers, being credited with nine; Vic Fleming is second with eight, and Parshall, Palin, and Berry are tied for third honours, each with six.
