FORBURY PARK TROTTING CLUB

MEETING OF COMMITTEE A meeting of the committee of the Forbury Park Trotting Club was held last night, when the president (Mr B. S. Irwin) was in the chair. The secretary of the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association (Mr J. G. Barnes) wrote asking permission to make use of the club’s track for athletic meetings. ’ The chairman mentioned that the request was more or less a “ hardy annual.” On one occasion the Minister of Internal Affairs had said that racing clubs should not tie up their properties and had pointed out that they enjoyed special privileges. Mr D. C. Jolly said that the Athletic Association should pay a deposit of £5 and if the ground was not left in the condition it was found in the deposit should be forfeited. After a general discussion it was decided to write to the association mentioning that the committee was favourable to the request, but would like a deputation to come forward to arrange details. Following a lengthy discussion it was decided to seek the permission of the New Zealand Trotting Council to hold next season’s spring meeting on November 24 and 26, the summer meeting on February 2 and 4, and the winter meeting on May 11 and 13. Mr J. Samson was nominated for a seat on the New Zealand Trotting Association. Mr Irwin was appointed the club’s delegate to the annual meeting of the New Zealand Trotting Conference. In connection with the Remounts Establishment Scheme, the New Zealand Racing Conference forwarded a circular in which it was stated that Major-general Young would be paying a visit to Dunedin when he would confer with a sub-committee from the centre. The chairman stated that delegates had been appointed from the Dunedin Jockey Club, the Otago Hunt Club and the Agricultural and Pastoral Society. Messrs C. R. Hadfleld and J. Richardson were appointed to represent the club on the sub-commit-tee. One of the main objects of Majorgeneral Young's visit is to select suitable stallions for breeding purposes.
