THE WASTAGE OF USED STAMPS
TO THE EDITOR Sir, —1 feel somewhat reluctant to crave your indulgence again for space to ventilate my views on the wastage of used stamps, but when I see on our refuse vehicles, as I frequently do. and as any observant citizen may. hundreds of stamps on envelopes being consigned to the rubbish tip and destruction, I feel impelled to make a further effort to impress upon business people in particular, that these used stamps are, in the aggregate, of very considerable value. An institution, in which I am not personally interested, but one which Is doing great work in assisting poor and perhaps invalid children to become useful citizens assures me that the proceeds of the sale of used stamps materially augments its revenue, I am not in the least concerned as to the particular object to which help of this kind is given, but to me it does seem a crying shame that so much potential charitable help which could be given without any cost should be so ruthlessly thrown away. Waste in any form is abhorrent to me, and this particular form of waste, so easily avoided, seems incomprehensible. —I am. etc.. Dunedin. May 12. A. S. Cookson.
