THE FREE PUBLIC LIBRARY
10 THE EDITOR Sir, —Now that the elections are over, may one who voted the blue ticket solidly be permitted.to draw the attention of his Worship the Mayor-elect and his worthy councillors to one matter? It must be confessed that there is one achievement —and so far as the writer is aware, only one—to the credit of the late incumbents, and that is the support they must have given to our Public Library, in view of the present undoubtedly excellent contents, equipment, lay-out, and, by no means least, personnel. The Reference Department has always been a model, but there have been such tremendous strides in the last three years in the Lending Department that one is forced to the conclusion that the ex-council was not niggardly in its support. As this is a strictly non-partisan issue and of benefit to all of us—witness the membership figures—may one express the hope that the new council will carry on the good work! —I am, etc., Dunedin, May 12. Solid Blue.
