President Roosevelt, in an address commemorating the Polish patriot Marshal Pilsudski, said: “We as.a nation seek spiritual union with all those who love freedom. We, of many bloods and diverse national origins, stand before the world to-day as one people united in a common determination to uphold the ideal of human society, which makes conscience superior to brute strength—an ideal which will substitute freedom for force in the Governments of the world.”
