REAL POLITICAL ISSUES
TO THE EDITOR Sir. —As one who voted for the “previous Government, I hope it will not be taken amiss if I repeat what I have heard from other supporters, since Parliament has been on the air. Firs) of all, they want the old leaders back again. Not that they have fault to find with Mr Hamilton as an M.P.. bui there is a feeling that, under either oi the old leaders, so much time would not be taken up in piffling criticism. Why waste time criticising the use of Post Office Bank savings, when every listener knows that these savings have always been used by every Government. and always will be. Then, why moan over trade with Germany? We have always traded with Germany more or less. If this practice hurts the British workman now, it must have hurt him all along. Surely there are real issues to be faced; why so often attack small ones? Then, the member for Awarua made a blunder in bringing up the question of loyalty. Returned men especially object to loyalty being made a parade of in party politics. Indeed, this member could well listen and study the speeches of the “old brigade.” I have heard his speeches spolren of as “perky,” and one supporter of the party even went the length of saving that there was a “ cattiness ” in this member’s speeches which weakened them. We can only judge by what comes to us over the air. Time is passing, so why not leave the pigmy questions alone and start dealing with the giants?—l am, etc., Candid Friend. Dunedin. October 11.
