MEN ON SUSTENANCE
TO THE EDITOR Sir —Your correspondents “ Disgusted Taxpayer ” and “ Mother’s Apron Strings ” seem to overlook the fact that single men have a right to live. Ft may surprise “ Disgusted Taxpayer and “Mother's Apron Strings to learn that a petition was sent to Parliament last week from single men in Green Island who are trying to obtain work. If “Disgusted Taxpayer” had read the Daily Times two months ago he would have learnt that there was no relief work in Dunedin and suburbs for single men. and that they would be placed on road-making and other jobs out in the country, but, like other jobs, it takes a long time to start these jobs I would also like to -point out to “ Disgusted Taxpayer ” and “ Mother s Apron Strings" that these single men in Green Island have been looking for work every day. In fact some of them cannot look now as they have no boots. The writer has answered several advertisements for farm jobs without success. If “Disgusted Taxpayer ” and “ Mother’s Apron Strings were given a good start in life by their mother or father or were pitchforked into a good job by someone else, it is not the case with most of our single men. and if they are manly enough to sign their names in this column I will very soon sign mine.—l am, etc., Long Sufferer. Burnside, October 11.
