FALSE DECLARATIONS MADE CHINESE GARDENER FINED (Per United Press Association! WANGANUI, June 21. Leon Pong, a Chinese who drew sustenance payments of £1 19s for six weeks while working in a market garden whereas he was only entitled to draw 22s a week, having a wife and one child, was ordered to refund 15s on each of six charges, with costs <£2 6s) The magistrate (Mr J. H. Salmon) remarked that in dealing with these cases he always endeavoured to impose such a penalty as would reimburse the department, so that the person charged would receive no gain through his false declaration.
