FRIENDLY SOCIETIES

PROTESTANT ALLIANCE Triumph Lodge held its quarterly meeting on June 10. when there was a large number of members and a full staff of officers and visitors, including the R.W.G. Master Bro, G. H. Hellyer and the Executive G. Council officers on their first official visit, members of No. 11 and No. 41, P.M. Bro. Millow and two brothers from No, 14 Star of Southland. The W.M. Bro. L, J. Peppered, on behalf of his lodge, extended a very hearty welcome. Correspondence was dealt with and an invitation from District Loyal Orange Lodge to a church service was accepted. The sick visiting committee reported on its work and claims to the amount of £1« were passed for payment. The W.M. then conducted the ceremony of initiation of a new member, and was congratulated by the W.G. Master and several of the visitors on his excellent manner of carrying out the ceremony. The Social Committee reported that all arrangements were ready for the social evening to be held on the next lodge night, A vote of thanks was carried by acclamation, and responded to by R.W.G.M Bro. Hellyer, on behalf of the Grand Council, also by Bros. Millow, Brown, Nelson and J. Gilchrist. The quarterly meeting of the Valley True Blue Lodge was held on June 15, a large number of members being present W.M. Bro. H. Strachan presided. The Grand Executive officers paid an official visit. W.G.M. Bro, G. Hellyer, D.G.M. Bro. H. Sincock, G. Secretary Bro. A, Hay and G. Trustees Bros. J. Harvey and J. Robb attending; Pride of the Valley Ladies’ Lodge, headed by W Mistress Sister Porter, also arrived. Routine business was quickly disposed of. An invitation to the L.O.L. July 12 church service was ccepted. the lodge deciding to attend officially. Arrangements were completed for the social and dance to be held on June 29. The main item of the evening was the presentation of a P.A. gold jewel to Past G. Master Bro. H D. Austin. W.G.M. Bro. G. Hellyer, in presenting the jewel referred at some length to the great work and long service rendered by Bro. Austin to the society G, Secretary Bro Hav and G. Trustee Bro. Harvey also spoke. The vote of'thanks to the visitors was responded to by the G. Lodge officers. W Mistress Sister Porter and P.M. Bro. Jackson of No. 9. The quarterly meeting of Pride of the Valley Ladies' Lodge was held on Juno 15, in the Albany Street Hall, when there was a large muster of members to greet the W. Mistress, Sister M Porter. who was ably supported by a full staff of officers. The usual routine of business was carried out, and four certificates of new candidates were received and balloted for admission. The ceremony of initiation was then proceeded with by the .W. Mistress, assisted by her officers and the supervisor, Bro. Zimmerman, P.M and was conducted in a very capable manner by all The Sick Committee reported that there had been no claims on the sick funds, and the ouarterly accounts were passed for pavrnent. It was decided to attend officially at the next meeting of the Triumph Lodge. It was then decided that the lodge would pay a surprise visit to Valley True Blue Lodge, who were in session in the lower hall. A full staff of officers greeted Bro. Morland. W.M.. at the Quarterly meeting of the Royal Excelsior Lodge held on .Tune IG. Visitors from the town lodges included the G.L. officers. Ladies’ Lodge, Valiev True Blue and Triumph. A committee was set up to make arrangements f • the anniversary social and dance to bo hold shortly. Several members sent in claims on the sick funds, over £ls being paid out.
