THE AUCKLAND CLUB

The Auckland Club’s social, which was held in the Strand Salon last Saturday evening, attracted the largest attendance of the season. Mr and Mrs Bren. Finlayson were a popular host and hostess.

A feature of the evening was the club’s first celebration of a silver wedding of two of its members, Mr and Mrs Ernest Griffin. This event was happily recognised in the presentation or a wedding scene, written by two members, Messrs Chapman and Murray, in which the happy pair was called upon to participate. Appreciation of Mr and Mrs Griffin’s association with the club in its early stages was voiced by the president (Mr Sinton) in an address when he made a presentation to them of a pair of silver serviette rings, the gift of the committee. Mrs Sinton presented a beautiful bouquet to Mrs Griffin, and Mr Chapman read a sheaf of congratulatory telegrams. Mr Griffin expressed thanks for the welcome and the splendid tokens from fellow members. Continuing, Mr Griffin announced the presence of another pair of jubilee celebrants, Mr and Mrs J. Patterson, of Invercargill. Musical honours were accorded these guests. At the president’s lead, birthday greetings were also extended to Signora Stella. A hearty vote of thanks was extended to the host and hostess (Mr and Mrs B, Finlayson). Mr Finlayson thanked the guests and the artists for having made the evening such a sueCGSS. The usual bright programme of dancing and games was carried out. A competition was won by Mr and Mrs Abernethy. New members and visitors were initiated in an amusing Eastern ceremony by Mr Letcher. M.C. An enjoyable musical programme was presented by Signor and Signora Stella, as follows:—" Heart That’s Free was sung by Mrs E.
