DUNEDIN WEST BRANCH CR SILVERSTONE GIVES ADDRESS By invitation of the members of the Dunedin West branch of the New Zealand Labour Party, Or M. Silverstone addressed a well-attended meeting at the Trades Hall on Wednesday. The president, in introducing the speaker, referred to the amount of work accomplished by Cr Silverstone or. behalf of the less fortunate of the community. Cr Silverstone took his audience back a few years and traced the position during the depression period, and spoke of the difficulties encountered by the Labour members of the City Council on taking office. Cr Silverstone’s work in connection with the approaching of the Otago Hospital Board and the Otago Harbour Board to find men employment was commended. During his address he made brief reference to his energies in connection with the various works in hand or under consideration. Mr Silverstone. in his remarks. , was not unmindful of the help received from the Acting Minister of Labour (Mr P. C. Webb) and the local M.P.’s, particularly Mr J. V/. Munro, and also from Cr Begg. He answered a number of questions, and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks and appreciation. The branch unanimously decided to subscribe £1 Is to the Spanish Medical Aid and 10s 6d to the Labour Debating Club.
