NEW PROVINCE PROPOSED

THE STATUS OF NORTHLAND ACTION BY CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE (Per United Press Association) WHANGAREI, June 17. A unanimous decision favouring provincial status for Northland was reached at the annual conference of the North Auckland Chambers of Commerce at Kawakawa yesterday. Representatives of each chamber pledged themselves to place the facts before the local bodies in their districts and to seek their support. The chambers will also bring before Iheir members within three months a suitable name for the proposed new province.

The move originated at the last conference of associated chambers held at Kaitaia, and since then meetings have been held in various centres to discuss the project.
