PERSONAL

Mr Douglas Ramsay was a passenger for Christchurch by the through express yesterday. Mr R. B. Tennent, director of the fields division of the Department of Agriculture, left on his return to Wellington by the through express yesterday. Mr J. Quaile, manager of the Dunedin Savings Bank, left by the midday express yesterday for Auckland to attend a conference of representatives from the savings banks of the Dominion.

Mr H. L.'Gibson will leave by the express this morning for Wellington, where he will represent the Otago section of the Railways Department at the opening of the new railway station. Sergeant J. Isbister, of Greymouth, is being transferred to Opotiki, to replace Sergeant R. Miller, who has been transferred to take charge of the Parnell station, Auckland.

Lieutenant-colonel J. Sclater, formerly traffic manager of the Canadian Pacific Railways for New Zealand and Australia, passed through Auckland by the Monowai on Monday on his way to British Columbia, where he intends to retire.

Several transfers of Southland members of the staff of the Bank of New Zealand are announced. Mr F. L. Smith, manager of the, Otautau branch, has been transferred to Raetihi, and Mr J. G. Conolly. who has been accountant at the Gore branch for 13 years, has been appointed manager at Otautau. Mr G. J. Thomson, of the Invercargill staff, has been transferred to Gore to fill the vacancy caused by Mr Conolly's transfer. The Union Airways liner Kotuku left the Taieri airport a"t 8.15 yesterday morning for Christchurch, Blenheim, and Palmerston North with Mr H. A. Le Pine for Christchurch and Mr F. M. Clarke for Palmerston North. The Korimako arrived from the north at 1 p.m. with Mr J. J. Busch from Palmerston North and Dr J. Gilmour and Mr Hayward from Christchurch.
