WELLINGTON END LAID

INTERISLAND COMMUNICATIONS (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 29. Lyall Bay to-day was the scene of cable-laying operation* when the Wellington end of the new cable across Cook Strait was laid by the motor ship Hokitika. The Hokitika is laying about two miles and a-half of cable from Lyall Bay, and the other ena is to be attached to a buoy which will later be picked up by the cable ship Recorder, which will lay the remaining sections across the strait.
