Mr Richard Hudson returned from Wellington on Saturday afternoon. Mr W. Easton returned to Dunedin by the afternoon express from the north on Saturday after a visit to Wellington. Dr J. G. Harkness left on Saturday morning to join the staff of the Wanganui Hospital. Mr J. S. Hislop and Mr H. H. Sykes returned from Wellington on Saturday afternoon. Mr J. W. Leslie, of the Union Steamship Company, is at present on a brief visit to Dunedin. Mr G. R. Herron, of Balfour, was a passenger by the second express for the north on Saturday, en route to Wellington. Mr W. Burton, general manager of Messrs Fuller Haywards, Ltd., arrived in Dunedin by air on Saturday and will leave for Christchurch this morning. Mr A. H. Templeton, manager of the Taieri and Peninsula Milk Supply Co., Ltd., was a passenger by the through express on Saturday morning, en route to Wellington. Mr W. J. Morrell and Mr L. Deans Ritchie, who' have been visiting Wellington on University business, returned by the express from Christchurch on Saturday. A British Official Wireless message from Rugby states that Rear-admiral Ford, who was formerly in command of the Australian Navy, has been promoted vice-admiral and becomes admiral-superintendent of Malta dockyard. Captain H. A. Forster has been promoted rear-admiral.

On the occasion of her .iorthcoming marriage Miss Mavis Johnston was presented with a canteen of cutlery by Mr L. H. Beardsley, on behalf of Messrs Kodak, New Zealand, Ltd., in whose employ she has been for 11 years. She was also presented by Miss O. Newell with several gifts on behalf of the staff,

Reference was made at the meeting of the Dunedin Bowling Centre on Saturday night to the death of -Mr William Nicolson, a past president of the centre and of. the New Zealand Bowling Centre. "Mr Nicolson was perhaps not so well known to the younger generation of bowlers," said the president (Mr J. H. Hinton), "but 20 years ago he was an outstanding figure in Otago and New Zealand bowling circles." Mr Hinton referred also to the death of Mr H. W. Kirkwood, who skipped the winning rink in this year's Adess Shield competition and who was a valued member of me North-East Valley Club. Motions of sympathy with the relatives were carried. The Union Airways liner Karoro left the Taieri airport at 8.15 a.m. on Saturday for Christchurch, Blenheim and Palmerston North with Messrs V. C. Mathews, W. G. V. Fernie and N. Marchant (for Christchurch) and Mr J, S. L. Stewart (for Palmerston North). The Kotuku arrived from the north at 1 p.m. with Mr W. Burton (from Blenheim). The Kotuku left the Taieri again at 8.15 a.m. yesterday for Christchurch, Blenheim and Palmerston North with Messrs J. S. Land and L. Blomfield (for Wellington) and Mr H Barron (for Palmerston North). The Korimako arrived from the north at 1 p.m. with Messrs W. Gall. J. F. King, G. Harvey and W. W. M'Laren (from Palmerston North) Messrs A. T. Waugh. J. N. Lloyd and J. R. M'Laren (from Blenheim) and Mr J. Duncan (from Christchurch).
