TESTING OF CARS
OBLIGATION OF MOTORISTS EXTENSION OF TIME ALLOWED (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 8. Motorists are required by legislation passed during the last session of Parliament to have their vehicles tested and passed as fit for the road before March 31, said the Minister of Transport (Mr R. Semple) this evening. He was determined that every car had to be tested before being allowed to continue on the road. He hrd thought the selection of March 31 as the last day would give sufficient time for testing, but he did not now intend to adhere rigidly to that date. The Transport Department was extremely busy with tests and in reasonable cases an extension of time would be allowed.
“ It is most significant,” Mr Semple added, “that tjie majority of vehicles which the department has tested so far has been found unfit for the road and requiring adjustments.” The Minister said the law provided a charge of five shillings for the testing q£ cars, and if there was any suggestion of price cutting, steps would be taken to eliminate it'.
