OTAGO CLUB The final of the Four-ball Knock-out Competition was played by the Otago Golf Club on the Balmacewen links on Saturday afternoon. A number of heavy showers fell throughout the play, and on the completion of the round the game was all-square. In the four extra holes required to be played C. W. Glover and J. N. Lemon won the first three and the match from T. B. Ferguson and D. A. Ferguson. PORT CHALMERS CLUB Despite the stormy nature of the afternoon, about 100 golfers and their friends were present at the opening of the Port Chalmers course at Sawyers’ Bay on Saturday afternoon. The president (Mr J. A. Crawford) welcomed the visitors, some of whom had come all the way from the Taieri, and thanked his own club members for their attendance. The Mayor (Mr T. Scollay) wished the club a very successful season. Mr Coughlan spoke on behalf of the Taieri Club and Mr N. Hay on behalf of the Belleknowes (dub. Kir Crawford then asked Mr Hay to drive the first ball of the season. Afternoon tea was provided by the lady members. By the time this was finished the weather had cleared sufficiently to allow some 25 enthusiasts to play a round. Several of the visitors were enthusiastic about the greens, which are in excellent order.
