(Received March 15, at 7.5 p.m.) John Harvey Lewis, 172J1b, the world’s light-heavyweight champion, successfully defended the championship at Madison Square Garden to-night, winning a 15 rounds decision from Jock M'Avoy 108 Jib. According to the newspapers’ ringside observers M'Avoy won only one of the 15 rounds, scoring at the end of the fourth, when he took the offensive and' landed a series of hard puilches to the negro champion’s face and head During the remainder of the bout the heavier Lewis scored an impressive points margin by clever punching tactics and aggressive fighting. By the end of the ninth round Lewis had Considerably weakened M‘Avoy, and from then on tried desperately for a knock-out. The Englishman showed endurance, however, and fought gamely to the final bell, landing several effective punches in the final round, but in doing so he absorbed much punishment.
