HEAD-ON COLLISION

MR COATES’S NARROW ESCAPE CARS EXTENSIVELY DAMAGED (Special to Dailt Times) AUCKLAND, March 15. Mr J. G. Coates, M.P., narrowly escaped serious injury when the small sedan car which he was driving collided with another car on the Main North road near Glorit, about 13 miles north of Kaukapakapa, shortly before 11 o’clock yesterday morning, i Mr Coates, who was accompanied by his wife, was travelling from his home at Matakohe to the Kemeu Show. The collision occurred at a dangerous bend in the road, and Mr Coates’s machine was struck head on by a large sedan car travelling north and driven Ly Mr N. A. Gazzard, a traveller for Kempthorne, Prosser and Co., Ltd., the other passenger being his sister-in-law. Both cars were extensively damaged and had to be removed by a breakdown van. The occupants escaped with bruises and a severe shaking. They were given first aid by two local residents, Mr and Mrs H. Dye, who later took Mr and Mrs Coates to the show in their own car.

Mr Coates arrived at Auckland to-day and left for the south by the Limited express this evening.
