INSTITUTE OF HORTICULTURE
ANNUAL CONFERENCE (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 4. A large number of horticulturists from various parts of New cZaland attended the thirteenth annual conference of the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture. The president (Mr F. J. Nathan, of Palmerston North) occupied the chair. It was reported that the institute had obtained authority through Parliament to set up an examining board and to issue certificates and diplomas to expert gardeners. The scheme had been a complete success, and up to date 250 diplomas had been issued. k The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr F. J. Nathan; vice-presidents —Messrs T. L. Lancaster (Auckland), C. W. Corner (Hawke’s Bay), P. Black (Palmerston North), J. G. Mackenzie (Wellington), J. Ring (Nelson), J. A. MT'horson (Canterbury), D. Tannock (Otago), and Sir Robert Anderson (Southland) ; Executive Committee—Mrs Knox Gilmer, Professor H. B. Kirk, Dr W. H. B. Oliver, Messrs A. H. Cockayne, J. A. Campbell, T. Waugh, F. S. Pope, W. C. Hyde, W. S. Mason, B. C. Ashton, T. C. Brash, TL J. Poole, W. K. Dallas, E. Phillips Turner, and A. M'Millan.
