A TOTAL LOSS
THE SCHOONER FAIRBORN BADLY HOLED ON ROCKS (Per United Press Association) WESTPORT. March 4. The auxiliary schooner Fairburn, which struck the Western Breakwater while attempting to leave Westport on Mon' day evening during the gale and was abandoned by the crew after being badly holed on the rocks, has now broken up. and is a total loss. There are no insurances.
The Customs Collector at Westport is holding a preliminary inquiry for reference to the department. The vessel, which had only a small quantity of cargo, was bound for Little Wanganui to load timber for Wellington A few drums of benzine were salvaged. The Fairburn was owned by the Karamea Shipping Company, Limited.
