MASPORT CUP

THE BABY TAUBMAN STUPID PRACTICAL JOKE. (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, January 25. “ Investigations into the cause of the failure of the Baby Taubman to start iii the Masport Cup race at Picton reveal that the boat and owners were the subject of an ill-timed practical joke,” said one of the owners to a Post reporter to-day. “ A metal screw was found so placed in the petrol line that the flow of fuel was practically nil. Unfortunately, the rainy conditions in the morning made it imperative that the boat should remain well covered until immediately before the race, and the trouble was not located in time to start. The officials showed every courtesy in delaying the start, but adjustments under the wet conditions were impossible.”
