MISHAP TO AEROPLANE

WHEEL FOLDS IN LANDING (Per United Press Association) GISBORNE, December 10. A minor mishap occurred at Napier this moraine to one of the East Coast Airways De Havilland planes. Just as the machine was coming to a standstill on completion of its usual run from Gisborne one wheel folded under the plane, causing slight damage to a wing and displacing the cowling of one engine. It is believed that the support stay of the wheel was bent by a sharp bump as the plane was -leaving Gisborne. The pilot, Flying Officer Kirkup, felt a heavy lurch, and because of this exercised more than usual care in landing. The company's ground engineer, Mr A. Brazier, was immediately flown to Napier in the company's second machine, and it is believed that repairs will be effected without serious delay and that the machine will be ready to play its part in the holiday rush which the advance bookings already indicate will be experienced by the company.
