DAMAGES CLAIMED

NORFOLK ISLAND CASE SUIT AGAINST ADMINISTRATOR SYDNEY, August 24. A Norfolk Island message states that Mr Justice Coyle, of Sydney, concluded the hearing of an action by Charles Ray Nobbs against Captain C. R. Pinney, the present Administrator, for alleged wrongful dismissal from the office of President of the Executive. Mr Nobbs’s case was that Captain Pinney wrongfully convened a special meeting of the Executive Council, over which he presided, and unlawfully submitted to the meeting a motion purporting to remove Mr Nobbs from the presidency. The latter claimed £3OOO as damages. The judge found that the Administrator had acted irregularly in calling the meeting, which was the President’s prerogative, and awarded the plaintiff nominal damages. He commented that the only real damage the plaintiff had suffered was to his pride, and added that the whole affair was most regrettable.
