ARRIVAL AT DANZIG VICTIMS OF NAZI CAMPAIGN (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, August 23. The Manchester Guardian’s Warsaw correspondent says: “ Numbers of Jewish refugees here arrived at Danzig. They are victims of an unprecedented Nazi campaign to turn out the Jews from East Prussia. Bakers in Tilsit wore warned not to sell bread to Jews. Flour mills and vegetable, fruit, and grocery shops were also forbidden to serve them. Two bakers who protested at this inhuman injunction were arrested. Jews were obliged to go to surrounding villages to save themselves from starvation. THE JEWISH CONGRESS LONDON, August 23. The Lucerne correspondent of The Times says that the Jewish Congress agreed to the necessity of intensified efforts in Palestine in- view of the catastrophic position of Jewry, criticised the restrictions on Jewish immigration to Palestine, and condemned the proposed introduction of a legislative council.— Times cable. A message received on Wednesday stated that in the presence of 400 dele gates, Nahum Sokolow, president of the World Zionists, opened the Zionist Congress with a declaration urging in ternational action against the persecution of Jews, equality of rights throughout the world, and freedom to rebuild Palestine as a national home.
