KILLED BY BANDITS

MR GARETH JONES’S FATE SHOT AFTER FALLING LONDON, August 18. The Daily Telegraph’s Kalgan correspondent revealed that the bandits, riding with Mr Gareth Jones in their midst, near Paochang, were hard pressed by the police, when Mr Jones, exhausted and emaciated, signalled to his captors thar. he was unable to proceed, and fell from his saddle. The bandits shot him while he was lying on the ground and galloped off. The police overtook them and opened fire, killing one and capturing another, who supplied the details of the murder. The Chinese authorities kept the news secret for four days, although the British Attache was urgently seeking facilities to enter the bandit area.
