QUEENSTOWN At the present time the bazaar in aid of the Roman Catholic Presbytery building fund is in full' progress. Preparations for the event have been made for a considerable time past, and the thoroughness of the organisation is everywhere apparent. It is anticipated that the financial result will not be very far short of the amount aimed at. A baby show was one of the attractions, close on 20 entries being received. The prizes were awarded as follows:—Un'der_ 12 months; Girl, Deirdre Gavin; boy, Kevin Braden. Over 12 months and under two years: Girl, Ann Stevenson; boy, Roy Lewis. . • „ , ■ At the sitting of the Police Court this week, before Mr H. J. Dixon. S.M., two charges were brought by .the Maui Highways traffic inspector against B. L. Scheib of (1) using a’ motor, car. bearing a registered number before a certificate of fitness had been issued; and (2) operating a car when ,no license had been issued for it. Counsel for defendant explained that defendant carried the mails between Queenstown and Arrqwtown. As Ids own car was under repair, he prevailed' upon the manager of the Mount Cook Tourist Company to lend him a car. The license for the only available one they:had, had expired, and the new license applied for had not come to hand. However, under pressure, the company lent Scheib the car. to which in all good faith he affixed his own registered number plate. He had no passenger on board at the time. —Defendant was convicted and fined' £2 on the first charge, with costa (IDs). On the second count he was convicted and ordered to pay . — Arising, out of this case, C. E. Elines, manager of the Mount Cook Tourist Company at Queenstown, was charged with assisting the defendant Scheib in the commission of:an offence. He was convicted and fined 20s, with costs (10s). At the annual meeting of • the Lake County Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd., the report showed that the twentyfirst year of operation was marked by a new record in the factory output. The totals are as follows: —Milk received, 1,385,7291 b, first grade; 32,7771 b second grade; total, 1,418,5061 b. Butterfat, 52,680.291 b. Cheese per lb butter-fat, 2.561 b; average test, 3.77; average payout, 8d per lb butter-fat. The balance sheet showed that the sales of cheese for export totalled £2176 17s lOd; local sales, £395 Is 2d; sale of cream, £57 8s 3d; stock in hand at July 31, 1934, £129 5s Od. The amount paid to milk suppliers was £1760 6s 6d. The two retiring directors, Messrs W. Reid and R. Jenkins, were re-elected and Mr C. M. Inglis was re-appointed ' auditor. At a meeting of directors held after the annual meeting Mr William Reid was unanimously re-elected chairman. It was decided to pay 8d per lb for butter-fat for the month of October. The following tenders were accepted:—Supply of two cords of wood at factory, William Reid and Sons, £1 per cord; 50-60 tons Bannockburn coal, Janies Shaw, £1 14s per ton; carting supplies to and from Frankton, A. M. Ritchie. The secretary, Mr A. F. Griffin, tendered his resignation, which was accepted with regret, the meeting placing on record appreciation of the excellent services rendered by Mr Griffin.
