AUSTRALIAN TARIFF
THE COTTON CONCESSIONS LANCASHIRE NOT APPEASED LONDON, August 29. The Daily Telegraph’s Manchester correspondent says that,' although Lancashire welcomes the cotton concessions mitigating hardships due to the cancellation •of many orders, feeling against the now duties is not appeased. A joint committee of the cotton trade, organisation will meet on Thursday to, discuss further action. OBVIATING HARDSHIP . MELBOURNE, August 29. (Received August 29, at 9 p.m.) Following the criticism from Lancashire with regard to cotton duties, the Minister of Customs (Mr T. W, White) has announced various items on which the Commonwealth Government has decided to grant concessions with a view to obviating hardship. He reiterated that the Government, in fixing the cotton duties, had been guided by the Tariff Board, its inquiry having gone back years.
