CENTENARY TOURNAMENT AMERICAN COMPETITORS HAWTHORNE (New Jersey), Aug. 28. Mr George Jacobus, president of the American Professional Golfers’ Association, interviewed , Jjy the.. Australian Press Association, emphatically denied the reports that American golfers had definitely decided not to participate in the centenary championships. He said that a team would positively be sent. Five, including Paul Runyan; had been definitely selected and had accepted. The sixth would be named within a week, by which time the list would be published. Mr Jacobus added that he had authorised and had already made tentative bookings for the team to sail from San Pedro by the Mariposa on October 17. He said he understood that Sarazen was unable to make the trip, due to professional engagements in America. Kirkwood was not selected by the Golf Association Committee, and whether he will make the trip as an individual is not known, but it is thought unlikely. , ' , Mr Jacobus asked the Australian Press Association to quote him as saying that the team selected would he exceptionally strong.
