FALL DOWN CQMPANIONWAY INQUEST ON VICTIM. (Per United Peeks Association.* AUCKLAND, June 8. An inquest into the death of Alfred Osborne, aged 49, who died on May 23 following a fall down the companionway into the forecastle of the Union Company's steamer Karepo, which was being fumigated with powerful gas, was concluded by the coroner, Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M., to-day. The coroner said that his finding was that death itself had taken place as the result of bronchitis, following burns. He would leave his verdict open as to what had caused the deceased to fall down the companionway. There was not sufficient evidence to determine whether he had slipped and fallen or whether he had fallen as the result of being seized with sudden dizziness through the inhalation of gas. Witnesses had said they regarded it as unnecessary for men working in the open to wear masks. As a result he was unable to add a rider concerning the method to be adopted in future. STRUCK BY FALLING LIMB WOMAN SEVERELY INJURED. (Pes United Pbesb Association.) GISBORNE, June 8. Crushed by a falling limb of a binegum tree which was being trimmed, Mrs Roland Graham, of Tolaga Bay, was severely, injured. Seven men had difficulty in extricating her. Her condition to-day is reported to be fairly comfortable. FALL FROM BICYCLE BOY FATALLY INJURED. (Per United I'kesh association.) WELLINGTON, Juno 8. A verdict in accordance with the medical evidence was returned at the inquest on the boy Clausseu who was killed by a lorry after a fall from a bicycle. The evidence showed that the boy was attempting to pass the lorry when the bicycle skidded on the surface of the road, which was greasy after the recent rain. The coroner said that it was a pure accident, no \blame attaching to the driver of the lorry. KILLED BY EXPLOSION While blasting operations were being carried out in the course of constructing a dam at Conroy's, near Alexandra, yesterday morning, Robert Love, an employee of the Public Works Department, was killed instantly by a charge of gelignite. The deceased was a married man, about 45 years of age, and he resided at Alexandra.
