SHIPPING TROUBLE

WELLINGTON WATERFRONT. i NORMAL CONDITIONS PREVAIL (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, June 8. Normal conditions obtained on the Wellington waterfront to-day. All the vessels were working cargo. The Shaw, Savill and Albion motor ship Taranaki, after working cargo all Thursday night, completed her loading early this morning and left the wharf at 7.30 a.m. for London. The shipowners met again this morning to consider the position, and as a result of the meeting labour calls were made at 10 a.m. for all vessels in port. All the calls were accepted by the waterside workers and work proceeded normally throughout the day. UNION COMPANY STEAMERS ALTERATION IN PROGRAMME. fPeB United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, June 8. As a result of the shipping trouble in Wellington the recommissioning of the steamer Maori in the Wellington-Lyttel-ton passenger service has been delayed. The Maori was to have replaced the Wahhie in the service to-morrow, the Wahine then withdrawing at this port until the summer months. As the changeover will not take place this week thi? Wahine will leave here as usual to-mor-row evening for Lyttelton, while the Maori will remain out of commission for an indefinite period. Some uncertainty has been expressed regarding the recommissioning of the Makura which, in ordinary circumstances, would leave Wellington next Tuesday for San Francisco after being overhauled here. The Makura was to have come out of dock to-day, but it was decided to leave her in dock. Whether a crew can be signed on remains to be seen.' The Maunganui, which left Sydney yesterday for Wellington, was to be withdrawn on her arrival and undergo extensive overhaul. Her cargo and passengers for San Francisco and the intervening islands were to be taken Ly the Makura. As the position is at present indefinite it is understood there is a possibility that the Maunganui may be required to complete the trip to America.
