STATE OF MANCHUKUO
AMERICA'S ATTITUDE " POSSIBLE RECOGNITION. NEW YORK, February 21. (Received Feb. 22, at 9 p.m.) The Washington correspondent of the New York Times says that President Roosevelt indicated to-day that the question of possible recognition of Manchukuo, following the forthcoming coronation of Mr Puyi, is such a delicate one that it cannot be discussed at the present time. Unofficial opinions of experts connected with Far Eastern affairs, however, are inclined to believe that the Administration will assume a more conciliatory attitude on this and other issues arising with Japan. Should the League withdraw condemnation of the Japanese action in aiding in the establishment of the new' State there would appear to be no reason why this country should not follow such a lead. In any event it is considered certain that President Roosevelt w.ill not follow the unswerving attitude embodied in Mr Stimson's policy of non-recognition.
