WAITAKI ELECTRIC POWER BOARD
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—As, your correspondent Mr G. Stringer, writing under the above heading, states that he has attended the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Churc’.i for several years, I assume that lie is a professing Christian, and one would expect him in that capacity to uphold truth and justice. Is it not a fact that the question which he raises about the socalled risk to life was dealt with at a special meeting of the full board on August 24 and occupied the best part of a day? I take it, therefore, that a full inquiry was held, and there, must have been good reasons for the majority of the board arriving at the conclusion they did. Mr Forrester was at the meeting and no doubt full opportunity was given him to ask any question then. Why, then, want to bring the matter up again after it had been fully dealt with by the board? If some of the members of the board would stop their vindictive and obstructive policy and get down to the business of
the board for which they were elected they would command more respect from the ratepayers, some of whom are disgusted at the attempts of the minority to rule the majority. The fact is that the majority of the ratepayers at last election showed that they were not satisfied with the last board in allowing one of its servants to rule and dictate the policy of the board and elected men who have enough backbone in them to shoulder their responsibilities, and who ca'n carry out the business of the board without any assistance from either the Public Works Department of any other outside body. —I am, etc., Ratepayer. Oamaru, November 1.
