NATIONAL RECOVERY
THE AUTOMOBILE CODE MR FORD’S POSITION. WASHINGTON, October 31. (Received Nov. 1, at 8 p.m.) The National Automobile Chamber of Commerce to-day notified Ford Motors to submit the wages and hours report required by the automobile code as the evidence of Mr Ford’s compliance with one requirement of the code did not settle the manufacturers’ status in regard to Government tenders. The Finance Committee of the Chicago City Council to-day recommended the purchase of 38 new Ford automobiles, no mention being made of the dispute with the N.R.A. FATAL END TO ARGUMENT. NEWPORT (Tennessee), October 31. (Received Nov. 1, at 8 p.m.) An argument over the N.R.A. to-day resulted in the death of Don Cahill and the imprisonment of Hugh M’Mahon, a blacksmith, who is charged with murder. Officers were told that the two engaged in a friendly argument in a blacksmith’s shop, M’Mahon defending the N.R.A. against the criticisms of his visitor. As the argument grew heated the men began hurling tools at each other, and finally M'Mahon drew a revolver and shot Cahill. CODE FOR AGRICULTURE. URGED BY GOVERNORS. DESMOINES, November 1, (Received Nov. 2, at 0.15 a.m.) The Governors of five mid-western States and representatives of four others last night signed a report to President Roosevelt urging an N.R.A. code for agriculture with fixed minimum prices for basic farm products, and the inflation of currency.
