The closing day of the Ranfurly Golf Club was held in bright sunshine and-good conditions for play, and took the form of Mixed Foursomes over nine holes for the White Cup, the scores being as follows!East and Mrs Mirfin 53—11—42, Hammond and Mrs Gilchrist 57 —16—41, Gilchrist and Miss Parsons 59 —15—44, Mirfin and Mrs Gilbert 52—14—38, Morris and Mrs Jamieson 53—13—40, Gilbert and Miss Bandy 56—14—42, M'Killop and Mrs M'Killop 65—16—49, Sewell and Miss Grant 51 —16 —35. The president (Mr D. M'Killop), in presenting the trophies won during the season, congratulated the winners and stated that, although the season was officially closing, play would still be allowed during the summer months. The winners were:—White Cup (Mixed Foursomes), M. Sewell and Miss Grant; Men’s Championship (cup presented by the Rev T. Hally), E. W. East 1, G. M. Gilbert 2; Ladies’ Championship (Spence vase), Mrs Wilson 1, Mrs Jamieson 2; Handicap Medal Round (crystal vase), Mrs Gilbert. During the afternoon the long-driving competitions were won by G.' M. Gilbert and Mrs Jamieson, and approaching and putting events by G. M. Gilbert and Mrs Gilchrist. On Saturday afternoon the ladies played another medal round for the M'Lachlan Brooch, Mrs Gilchrist being the winner. As both Mrs Wilson and Mrs Gilchrist have each won this trophy twice, they will play off to decide who will keep it. BUILDING ACTIVITY. The town is showing signs that,the depression is at last releasing its .grip. A( new hotel is contemplated, and a commencement has been made on a large private hotel to replace the present one. A very old landmark in the main street has also been removed bodily after much difficulty to make way for new premises, EUCHRE. The final evening of the Anglican Church euchre tournaments was held on Friday, when a good attendance of players enjoyed the novelty of Chinese euchre. The winners were:—Mrs J. Horan and Mr Swanson; booby prize, Mrs G. Bell and Mr, J. Scott. THE WEATHER. The weather continues to be changeable. Heavy rain on Saturday evening was followed by a mild and sunny day on Sunday. A falling glass? however, portended another cold snap, and yesterday stormy conditions were experienced. The surrounding country is looking remarkably green, and prospects for summer feed are bright. PERSONAL. Miss Peg. Shannon, who has been relieving on the staff of the Maniototo Hospital, has left' to take a position in Dunedin. V
