BALCLUTHA, October 31. “BACK TO CHILDHQOD.” A successful “ back to childhood ” dance was held last night in St. Mark’s Hall, in aid of the Sports Queen (Miss Brenda Mitchell). Seventy couples were present, and the efforts of all to appear as in their youth produced keen competition. Prizes for the best fancy dresses were awarded to Mrs Stark and Mr Fergie. Mrs Johnson supplied the music, and Miss Joy Price (Dunedin) .gave a good exhibition of tap dancing. PERSONAL. ' Mrs Hannah Mackay, who died at Lake Coleridge on Saturday at an advanced age, was the widow of the late Mr Finlay Mackay, well known in Balx clutha and district a good' many years ago as road and bridge contractor. Mrs Mackay .'formerly lived a£ North, Balclutha, but for some years-had been with her married daughter at Lake Coleridge, Canterbury. 1 BOWLING. In a progressive doubles tournament on the local bowling green the winners were Messrs James Dunn and J. Sim. Benhar defeated Warepa on the Benhar green. Three rinks from Stirling visited Kaitangata, and defeated the local team by 60 points to 47 points. On Saturday Benhar and Balclutha will play on the Balclutha green; Warepa and Stirling at Stirling, and Kaitangata and Milton at Milton. OBITUARY. ( The death occurred at Balclutha Hospital to-day, after a long illness, of Mr William Kerr, who until his illness was manager of Lady Boss’s estate at Pukepito. He was a single man, and had the reputation of being a fine judge of stock and a successful exponent of the best farming methods. Some 30 odd years ago Mr Kerr was agent for Wright, Stephenson, and Co. at Balfour, Southland, and in' his young days was foreman under Mr Donald Macdonald, when the latter was maniager of the Edendale estate for the N.G-A.A. Land Company.
