WAIKOUAITI BOROUGH COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Waikouaiti Borough Council was held on Monday evening, and was attended by the Mayor (Mr Andrew Fell), Crs W. H. Brown, J. Cooper, A. Jenkins, W. R. M'Dougall, D. Russell, and R. M. Templeton. CORRESPONDENCE. The district engineer, Public Works Department, Dunedin, wrote asking if the council would allow the department to take about 2200 gallons of water per day from the borough mains for road .construction purposes.—Received, and permission granted, the charge for the water to be 9d per 1000 gallons, the department to discontinue the use of the water if at any time notified by the council to that effect. Mr E. Fletcher Roberts, Dunedin, wrote stating that after inspecting the dam on the garden Bush Creek he could not approve of the council’s proposal to increase the height of the weir. There was, however, several suitable sites for additionaal storage higher up the stream, and the erection of a dam on one of these sites eight to 10 feet in height would impound a large quantity of water. — After some discussion, it was decided to engage Mr Roberts to select and survey a site which would store 1,000,000 gallons of water, and to prepare a plan of the proposed work and an estimate of the cost. Mr W. Russell -wrote asking for a water service to his residence on th? main road. —The application was granted, the charge for the water to be £2 per annum, the water to be used for household purposes only, and the applicant to bear the cost of putting in the connection, GENERAL. The proposed loan conversion scheme was again considered by the council, and the following resolution was passed:— ‘‘That application be made to the Local Government Loans Board for approval of the conversion of the borough water works loan under the Local Authorities Interest Reduction and Loans Conversion Act, 1932-33, on the following terras: — Amount of loan, £8400; terms, 20 years; interest, per cent.; security, an annual recurring special rate of one penny in the £; provision for repayment, the accumulated sinking fund of £2035 as at March 31, 1933, in the hands of the Public Trustee; and, in addition, an annual payment of 1J per cent. (£126) during the currency °f the loan.” It was further decided that the date of conversion be fixed at April 1, 1934. -

The dayman was instructed to inspect the, water mains, and to put in new pipes where required. It was decided to place an order for dog collars for the year 1934 with the Disabled Soldiers’ Civil Re-estab-ment Committee, Dunedin. Accounts amounting to £267 10s lOd were passed for payment.
