-(From Our Own\ Correspondent.) KUROW, October 31. FIRST AID. A junior ‘ medical first aid class has been formed at Waitaki Hydro, meetings being held before those of the senior ; organisation. Great keenness is being ’displayed by the boys, the lectures given by Dr D. G. M'Millan being very well attended. Last Saturday a one-hour field instruction was held. RETURNED SOLDIERS’ ASSOCIATION. On Saturday afternoon the president and members of the executive of the Oamaru Returned Soldiers’ Association paid a visit to the Waitaki Hydro-electric Works as guests of the local branch. The visitors were shown over the works by the assistant engineer (Mr C. E. Allcock) and Mr W. Bignell, after which they wore taken through the power house by Mr P. S. Geddes (power house overseer). After dinner, a meeting was held to discuss matters affecting the branch. The visitors were welcomed by the branch president 1 ' (Mr W, C. Grant), the vicepresident (Mr W. Bignell), and members of the executive, replies being made by the Oamaru president (Mr C. J. Mollison), J. M'Nulty, and Mr N. H. Colquhoun (secretary). LAWN TENNIS.
The Waitaki Hydro Lawn Tennis Club commenced a Yankee tournament on Labour Day and completed it on Sunday. There were 28 entries, the winning pair being Miss J. Johnson and Mr S. Anderson, who scored the possible by winning every set from scratch. The runners-up were Miss B. Johnson and Mr I. Campbell, who, with four losses, were only four points down from the possible score. In nil, 94 sets were played, each pair playing 12 sets. NEW ZEALAND LEGION.
A meeting of the New Zealand Legion was held in the Kurow Hall on Monday evening, Mr D. E. Neave occupying the chair. The speakers wore Messrs J. M. Forrester and J. C. Kirkness, who detailed the aims and objects of the legion. At the conclusion of their addresses the speakers answered several questions to the satisfaction of the audience, and were accorded a vote of thanks. COURT PRIDE OF WAITAKI.
The monthly meeting of Court Pride of Waitaki, 6533, A.0.F., was held in the Presbyterian Hall, Kurow, on Monday evening, Chief Ranger Bro. B. T. Appleby presiding over a good attendance of members. The woodwards reported that one member was still on the sick list. A letter was received from Court Pride of Oamaru inviting the lodge to visit Oamaru on a date to be mutually arranged. The hall was then prepared for the initiation of two sew member®,
