The second round of the Men's Knockout Competition resulted as follows:—lrving beat Barnett, 4 and 3; Clark- beat Ewart; 3. and 2; Allan beat Lennox, 1 up; Jolly beat Walsh, 8 and 7. Sinclair'v. Kelly and M'Faul v. C. Lewis will play off during the week. TALK OF PROTEST. There is talk of a protest by the owner of Heroine against Picardy Boy being awarded first place in the Vice-presi-dent's Cup in the coursing meeting held •at Otanomomo on Saturday. It is claimed that the dog'was not nominated in the actual owner's name, though it is stated that the nominator acted in ignorance. STREET ACCIDENT. A horse attached to a butcher's cart : owned by Mr A. Botting bolted in Clyde street to-day, and struck a, telegraph pole with such, violence that the shafts of the vehicle were, smashed and the horse got away, with the shafts still dragging. Ihe meat in the cart was scattered over the road. QUEEN CARNIVAL. The following queens 'have been selected for the - Balclutha Methodist queen carnival:—Guild Queen, Miss - Marjorie Guest; Choir Queen, Miss D. Sinclair; Trust Queen, Miss B. Mitchell.
