LAWRENCE NOTES

(From Oub Own Correspondent.) LAWRENCE, September 25. DAFFODIL SHOW. Two local growers had conspicuous success at the Invercargill Garden Club's Daffodil Show on September 24. At the National Daffodil Society's two classes for 18 blooms representing five divisional and six blooms representing two divisions. Mr T. H. Clark won the two firsts and Mr J. B. M'Kinlay the second prizes. In the class for 12 blooms, the first prize for which 'is the Southland Perpetual Challenge Cup, to be held for one year, was won by Mr J. B. M'Kinlay, with Mr T. H. Clark second. The class for 12 ,v.i9cs, three blooms of each, representing four divisions, resulted: Mr J. B. M'Kinlay 1, T. H. Clark 2. PERSONAL. The Rev. C. N. Luker, who is leaving to take charpe of the Riverton parish, was tendered a farewell social on Friday evening by the parishioners of his district. The Mayor (Mr J. K. Simpson) presided over a large gathering, and, after eulogising Mr Luker s services both as vicar and citizen, presented him with a roll of notes. The Revs. H. H.

Barton (Presbyterian) and Fawcett (Methodist), and Messrs J. S. Brooks, Moore, and M'lntyre (High School rector) also spoke. Presentations were' also made by the Ladies' Guild (for Mrs Luker) and by the Bible class to Mr Luker. The Rev. J. N. Thompson, of Riverton, hag been appointed to the Lawrence parish, and will arrive this week.
