(Fiton Our Own Correspondent ) PEMBROKE, September 25. LAMBING. Lambing is now general on low-country holdings. The mild winter experienced left ewes in fine condition, and if the present favourable weather continues high percentages should be recorded. HAWEA-WANAKA ROAD. It is reported that the local unemployed are to be transferred to work on the Hawea-Wanaka road preparatory to the complete clearing of the road to traffic by the Publiq Works Department before Christmas. GOLF. The ladies' section of the Golf Club played a four-ball best ball match on Saturday over 13 holes for Mr M'Laren's trophies. The match resulted in a tie between Mesdames Jackson and Studholme and Miss Perrow and Mrs James Faulks, the former pair winning on a recount over the last seven holes. The following are the scores: — Mesdames Jackson and Studholme, 61 — 21—40; Miss Perrow and Mrs Faulks, 62 —22—40; Mrs Walker and Miss Scaife, 67—22—45; Mesdames Ewing and Perrow, 66—19—47; Misses Barker and Wilson, 72 —24—48; Mrs Morris and Miss Habner, 72—23—49; Mrs Mann and Miss Faulks, 72—23—49; Mesdames M'Kegg and Thompson, 71—22—49; Mr s Collings and Miss Ewing, 70—20—50; Mrs Scaife and Miss M'Farlane, 74—20—54. The men played a Stroke Competition over 18 holes. The following are the best cards:— T. Anderson, sen., 93—29—64; F. Jackson, 82—15—67; J. Faulks, 84—15—69;. C. Ironside, 94—21—73; M. The season will be brought to a close on Saturday next with a Mixed Canadian Foursome over 13 holes. At the conclusion of the match the prizes won in club competitions will be presented by the president (Mr Amos M'Kegg). LAWN TENNIS. The annual meeting of the Wanaka Lawn Tennis Club was held in the Pembroke Hall on Wednesday night. The president (Mr G. L. Morris) presided over a large attendance of members. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet, the chairman congratulated members on a successful season and on the strong financial position of the club. The following officers were elected for the incoming season: —President, Mr W. A. Scaife; senior vice-president, Dr ETmslie; committee —Mesdames W. A. Scaife and G. L. Morris, Miss D. Collings, Miss D. Jackson, Messrs C. Wilson, A. Thorley, L. Morris, and H. Halliday; secretary, Mr R. Waldron; treasurer, Mr D. Dickson; Social Committee —Misses D. Collings and J. Scaife, Messrs C. Wilson and A. Thorley. ■■■'■' A lengthy discussion on the club's challenge rules resulted in the adoption of a system acceptable to members.

Owing to pressure of harvesting work after Christmas, it- was decided to play two rounds for the championship before that date, a knock-out competition to be played between the teams available after Christmas. The following is the draw for the first round, the matches to be played on the grounds of the last-named teams:— Octobr 7.—Luggate v. Wanaka, Cardrona v. Hawea, Lowburn a bye. October 14.—Wanaka v.' Officers, were elected as follows:—President, Mr F. Collings; secretary, Mr H. Harris; treasurer, Mr G. Wilkie; senior vice-president, Mr John Faulks; captain. Mr C. Collings; vice-cap-tain, Mr G. Wilkie. It was decided to open the season on Saturday next with a match against members of the Oddfellows' Lodge.
