STRIKE ON THE RAND

SECTIONS OF MINERS NOT RECOGNISED BY UNION. CAPETOWN, September 21. Sections of the miners at Langlaagte and Simmer Jack, in the central area of the Rand, struck because their requests for special consideration on certain jobs were not granted. Since the abandonment of the gold standard the miners have demanded participation in the premium, which was refused on the ground that the premium was devoted to the development of low-grade ore and increased employment. The strike is not recognised by the union, but is regarded as dangerous.
