NEW AUSTRIAN REGIME
A NAZI PREDICTION BRIEF TENURE OF OFFICE (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) MUNICH, September 21. Nazi headquarters declare that Dr Dolfuss is making a last desperate effort to resist being submerged by a huge approaching wave of Nazism. It is predicted that his office will be as brief as General Von Schleicher’s was when he was chosen German Chancellor as the only alternative to a Nazi Government. The Salzburg correspondent of The Times says that the Cabinet will fulfil Dr Dolfuss’s promise to establish an authoritative Government, replacing the party system. His courageous surgery has surprised his most ardent supporters. —Times Cable. TROUBLES NOT OVER YET. VIENNA, September 21. The British United Press correspondent says that after a conference, finding that the views of the chief supporters of Prince Starhemberg and Herr Winkler were irreconcilable, Dr Dolfuss demanded the resignation of the Cabinet and offered to resign himself, but the President insisted that he remain in office. It is officially stated that, though Dr Dolfuss is directly in command of the armed forces, his presence in the Cabinet means that he does not possess full dictatorial powers. The new regime provides for the appointment of industrial commissioners throughout Austria with complete powers. . GUILD LEGISLATIVE SYSTEM. INTRODUCTION PROBABLE. ;) VIENNA, September 21. (Received Sept. 22, at 10 p.m.) The new Ministers already foreshadow the early creation of an experimental Guild Council similar to the Fascist Grand Council to explore the best basis on which to introduce the guild legislative system. The Monarchists are openly happy at the turn of events and they assert that five Ministers are overt protagonists of the Hapsburg cause and two others are secret Monarchists.
