(From Our Own Correspondent.) ALEXANDRA, September, '22. The weather for. the past week has been excellent,, and all the-orchards are now practicallv in full bloom. The likelihood of frost is not very apparent at present, but until the, end of November this possibility is ever present., . LAWN TENNIS.: The annual meeting of the Alexandra Lawn Tennis Club was held last evening, the president (Mr R. E. M‘Lay) presiding over a good attendance. . The election of office-bearers .for, The ensuing year resulted as follows:-—Pre-sident, Mr .R. : E;' M‘Lay ;; yice:presi-dents—-Messrs J. H. Hart, and R. Hewitt; secretary and treasurer, Mr James Duncan; Men’s Committee—Messrs R. A. Long, E. Russell, J., R.Earwaker, and. TV A. Mahoney ; Ladies’ Committee— Mesdames J. D. Watt, E. Russell, R. A. Long, and Misses I. R. Wallace, N. Ferris, J. Scott, E. M'Donald,. R. B. Miller, I. Blackwood, ■S. Cameron; auditor, Mr H. P. Cowie; eole ‘selector, Mr R. E. M‘Lay; delegates to sub-union, Messrs R. M‘Lay and R. Hewitt; delegates to Reserves and Pavilion Committees—Messrs R. E. JPLiiy. and E. Russell. Opening day was fixed for October 7. The question ,of holding a ball was left to be discussed, at a further meeting of the club. The president and secretary were delegated to meet other sports bodies and discuss the question of forming a combined sports council. LOWER MANORBURN RESERVE. With the completion of the hew Lower Manorbnrn dam, about four miles from Alexandra, the idea -of creating ; the whole area a public reserve .has been put forward, and, with this Object in view, a meeting convened by Mr W. Bringans (Mayor); and Mr W. A. Bodkin, M.P., was held in. the Town Hall last evening. Both Mr Bringans and Sir Bodkin addressed the meeting and stressed the possibilities of the site. The area is. ideally situated and well shaded, and with the completion of the dam it should be an attractive fishing and boating resort. Already some local citizens contemplate purchasing boats for the lake." The owner of the property has offered no objection to its being proclaimed a reserve, and the meeting decided to form a committee to apply for the area to be vested in a domain board and to undertake any preliminary work possible. The following committee was appointed :—Messrs A. MTCcllar (chairman), H. Hesson. R. Tohill. D. Provan, W. R. Lloyd Williams, and: E. Russell (secretary pro tem). At a subsequent committee meeting it was decided to write the Otago Motor Club asking for full particulars ,as to what is required to make a complete and up-to-date motor camp. HERD* TESTING- .

The third annual meeting of the Central Otago branch of the New Zealand Herd Testing Association was held on Monday evening. Mr R. Tohill presided, and there were also present Messrs Oswin (secretary of the group) and C. N. Hume (Dominion organiser), both of whom addressed the meeting. The following committee was. appointed for the ensuing year:—Messrs.L. Ryan (Galloway), S. G. Lewis (Springvale), J. Williams (Moa Creek), :E. Waldron (Clyde), A. L. Lindsay (Fruitlands), E. J. Iversen (Earnscleugh), T. Toms (Bannockburn)., . . .. SMALL FARM PLAN. A meeting of the committee set up for Central Otago by the Small Farm Board (Messrs R. B. Tcnnent, fields superintendent of the Department of Agriculture, F. W. Lindup, resident engineer ol the Public Works Department, and J. M. M'Donald, fields inspector oMhe Department of Agriculture) met in Alexandra on Tuesday evening. The committee’s duties consist of handling- offers from land holders for purchasing suitable land for settlement purposes. Several offers were discussed and there appears to be no dearth of applicants for these and other farms. At least c;veh local unemployed are desirous of; obtaining farms under this scheme. PERSONAL. Mr G. H. Frater, of the Pensions Department, Christchurch, is at present spending his annual leave in Alexandra.
