THE SANDERS CUP

DISPUTE WITH AUCKLAND (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, September 20. The chairman of the Wellington Provincial Yacht and Motor Boat Association (Mr 0. A. Holier) stated at jthe annual meeting of the association to-night that he had been to Auckland and had interviewed Mr J. Hislop, of Messrs Walker and Hall, Ltd., the donors of the Sanders Cup. The position was that Mr Hislop had received a letter from the Auckland Association together with a deputation and had asked that the cup be returned. The association had replied that it would bring the matter before its next meeting to be held in about a fortnight’s time. “ I think we are pretty well approaching finality,” he said.- The meeting decided that it would accept no liability for the preparation of the 1932 plans and specifications of the Rona-Jellicoe class boat on the ground that they were of entirely new design. The chairman said the plans and specifications were of no use to the association.

As proof that the plans were useless, Auckland had built two boats, neither of which conformed to the plans. Wellington had carried out its part of the contract, and he did not think it ought to pay for something Auckland itself could not use.
