RACING IN AUSTRALIA VICTORIA PARK MEETING. DEPUTY RULER’S SURPRISE. (United Press Association.) ' (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) SYDNEY, September 20. (Received Sept. 20, at 11.55 p.m.) The Victoria Park races were held today. Following were the results:— SIR HERBERT MAITLAND STAKES. C. M. Emanuel’s ch c DEPUTY RULER (N.Z.), (Chief RulerDuchess Eudorus), 3yrs, 7.3 (Knox) 1 C. C. Sheath’s AMMON RA (N.Z.), 9.0 (Pike) .. .. 2 H. R. Telford’s BREAK UP, 7.13 (Coutts) 3 Nine started, including Top Hole, Bold Boy, Topical, Silver Scorn, and Waltzing Lily. Won comfortably by two lengths and a-half, with a length between second and third. Time, Imm 25isec. The result was a complete surprise over a classical field. Deputy Ruler received a 101 b allowance. Silver Scorn again lacked dash. An inquiry was held into interference with Waltzing Lily, but it was adjudged to be accidental. FLYING HANDICAP. First Division. E. H. Bowman’s br g SERABITE (Moabite —Seraphym), 4yre, 7.3 (Lightfoot) 1 CURTIUS, 7.6 (Knox) .......... 2 W. Jury’s KOROKIO (N.Z.), 8.0 (Reed) 3 Seventeen started, including Havaspot. Won by half a length, with a length between second and third. Time, Imin 13sec. Second Division. VISTA, 8.2 (R. Reed) 1 WOLLUN, 7.9 (Knox) 2 H. F. Blundell’s COTTESMORE (N.Z.), 8.0 (Ellis) 3 Eighteen started. Won by a length and a-half, with a head between isecond and third. Time, Imin 13sec. Cottesmore, when nearing the judge’s box, ran vex'y wide and spoilt a chance of victory. The Mirror was unplaced in the Brush Hurdles, and Safari was unplaced in the First Division of the Encourage Handicap. Autopay wrenched his back, and is an unlikely starter at the spring carnival. Master Brierly is recovering from foot touble.
