(Special to Daily Times.) KUROW, September 13. CRICKET CLUB. The annual meeting of the Kurow Cricket Club was held on Monday evening, a good muster of members being present. The annual report and balance sheet, which showed the club to be in a sound position, was adopted. Four new members were elected, and a few resignations were received, leaving the club with a membership of 67. The following officers were elected:— President, Mr A. H. MTCinnon; secretary, Mies D. Cairns; treasurer, Mr G. W-. Cogger; vice-presidents —Messrs A. Dunstan, R. C. M'Master, J. R. Jackson, and G M'Aughtrie; committee—Mdsdames M, Barclay, G, M'Aughtrie, E Cairns. J Shanks. J. Jackson, and A. I. Valentine, Messrs J. Corrigal, J. Curnn, A: O’Reilly. E. Christianson, D. Taylor, and W. Rollinson. BILLIARDS MATCH. A very closely-contested billiards match took place in the Y.M.C.A. last Tuesday evening between teams representing the carpenters and “ Blue Hole. ’ After an exciting game the “ Blue Hole team won by 6 points. Sullivan 75, J. Sutherland 90. SCHOOL MATTERS. The Haka Valley and Hakataramea School Committees held meetings recently to discuss matters relating to transport of the children. The latter meeting passed the following motion; —“The parents or the Hakataramea School child ■■an are unanimously against the proposal of closing the Hakataramea School and l)’, a J), ( ) rr ?P= the pupils to Kurow, ’ and Thai the parents of the Hakataramea school children are not in fdvour of transferring Standard VI pupils to Kurow, but suggest that, if necessary, extra accommodation be supplied, and that an extra teacher be granted.” KUROW SCHOOL. The monthly meeting of the Kurow School Committee was held on Monday • evening, the chairman (Mr J- K :,V ac ** son) presiding. The headmaster (Mr A, M‘R. Davidson) reported that last term the number of pupils attending the school was: Primary 29.1 and secondary 39, and the average attendance for the term was 90.4. This term there were 317 primary and 38 secondary pupils on the roll, total- . ling 355. The staff now consisted of the rector and 10 assistants. ■ The question of the erection of the swimming baths in the school Founds was discussed, the excavations for this undertaking having already bera begun, the original size being 50 feet by 25 feet, but in response to representations by the townspeople to enlarge them and make them public baths the Rev A. H. Nord- / mever. Dr D. G. M Millan, JMr Davidson were constituted a sub-commit-tee to go into the question of whether they should be made 75 feet by 25 feet, or the greater length of 33 1-3 yards. MEMORIAL HALL. Advice has been received that the Unemployment Board has approved the grant under the building subsidy scheme of 33 1-3 per cent of the amount in wage 3 expended on the Kurow Memorial Hall. EUCHRE PARTY. The Waitaki Hydro branch of the New Zealand Labour Party held a euchre tournament on Tuesday evening the prizewinners being as follows:—Ladies—Mrs A. Phillips Miss V. Nash, Miss M. Collins, Mrs A. Campbell; consolation prize. Miss A. Bloomfield. Men —Mr J. J. Ere Jinan, Mr T. Griffin, Mr A. H. Ross, Mr W. A. Anderson; consolation, Mr i. Lancaster. RIFLE CLUB. The following are the best scores at the weekly shoot of the Kurow Miniature Rifle Club: —J. Curie /8, F. Velsh ,78, K. Garden 77, B. T. Appleby 76, T. Sanders 76, F. Todd 76, J. Collins 76, E. Middleton 76, A. C. Robinson 76, L. Worthington 75, G. Donald 75. B Greer 75 W. B. Appleby 75. T. Lamberton 74’ G R. Shaw 74, S. Marsh 74. S. Appleby 73, T. Hollands 72, D. Todd 72, G. W. Cogger 71, E. Christianson 70. J. Carle won the weekly button off the rifle, and K. Garden won the handicap button in the final shoot-off. Considerable interest is being exhibited in the team * shoot competition, last week G. R. Shaw a team, the holder of the lead with but brief intervals for so long, being beaten by E. Christianson’s team, which has since been beaten by A. C. Robinsons team, consisting of A. C. Robinson, W. Booth, F. Welsh, and J. Curie.
