AUGUST MEETING OPENED PRINCIPAL RACE TO SIR GUY (Per United -Press Association.) , CHRISTCHURCH, August 5. The New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s August meeting was opened in fine weather. After overnight rain the course was sticky early, but improved with racing. The attendance was good, and the totalisator investments were £17,971 (win £7322, place £10,649), against £13,791 10s last year, when the first day was postponed till the Monday. Racing down the back the leaders maintained their positions, and with a round to cover the order was Linkman, Gold Tinge, Mountain Dell, Silver de Oro, Sunny Morn, Sir Guy, Colorado, Glenrossie, First Flight, and Red Shadow. Mountain Dell led into the back, but at the far turn Sir Guy went to the front and led into the straight from Mountain Dell, Gold Tinge, Colorado, and Sunny Morn. Sir Guy stayed on and won by a neck from Red Shadow, with Sunny Morn three lengths away, and Colorado fourth.
